Intersections and Crosswalks
Tip #1 Cross the street at intersections and crosswalks.
The safest space to cross a street is a marked crosswalk. It is State law for a driver to stop and yield the right of way to a pedestrian at a crosswalk (Texas Transportation Code Sec. 552.003). Crossing at mid-block locations without a designated crosswalk is dangerous for both the pedestrian and motorists.

- Cross the street when the pedestrian signal illuminates the 'walk' symbol at signalized intersections.
- When the pedestrian signal illuminates a red hand (sometimes accompanied by a countdown) do not enter the crosswalk. Wait until the next 'walk' phase.
- Make eye contact with the driver and wait until the vehicle stops before entering the marked crosswalk or intersection (Tip 6).
