Walk Facing Traffic
Tip #4 Walk facing traffic when sidewalks are unavailable.
Walking facing oncoming traffic increases visibility to oncoming drivers and enables the pedestrian to quickly react if a driver veers toward the edge of the road. According to Texas Transportation Code, a pedestrian has the right to walk on the left side of the roadway facing oncoming traffic if a sidewalk is not provided (see Sec. 552.006 Pedestrians and Other Sidewalk Users).

- Stay alert and face oncoming vehicles.
- In dark lighting conditions, make yourself visible by wearing reflective material or bright colors (Tip 7).
